Letter to Feingold
Columbia County Democratic Party
Working for government that works for people
April 12, 2006
The Honorable Russ Feingold
United States Senate
Washington, DC 20510
Dear Senator Feingold:
We write to express our profound appreciation for your courageous stand against the unlawful actions of the current occupant of the Whitehouse and his many apologists. We wholeheartedly support your call to censure the President for his admitted violation of FISA. One of the bedrock principles upon which our nation was founded is the rule of law. The President seeks to be above the law, accountable to no-one. Your leadership gives us hope that, in time, the citizens of our great nation will reassert their sovereignty and revive in our government our ideals of freedom, democracy and justice.
We commend you as well for your recent statement in opposition to Wisconsin’s mean-spirited constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage and civil unions, and even more so for your unequivocal support for legalizing same-sex marriage. It is un-American to deny certain families and citizens, people who have harmed no-one, the same legal rights enjoyed by all citizens. Those who frame this legal issue as a religious one in order to drive people apart and consolidate their own power are contemptible. Those who stand by silently while this is done are little better.
We are indeed fortunate to have a representative with the judgment, character and backbone to stand up for what is right, time and time again. Sir, you do us proud.
Sincerely,
Working for government that works for people
